northumberland heath fc vs orpington town
The Gaffer wasn't best pleased with the overall performance, but he did take encouragement from the moments where the lads changed things up and took control of the game. The half-time chat was calmer than expected. a reflection of the team's turnaround and fighting spirit. You could say we got a bit lucky, but sometimes that's football.
The first half saw a slow and somewhat sloppy start for The Heath. Possession was fairly balanced, and both sides had their chances. Orpington were first to find the net, but The Heath hit back quickly - not once, not twice, but three times, all from corners! It's safe to say the corner routines we've been drilling in training have paid off.
The second half, however, wasn't without its drama. A few mini mistakes from our keeper kept things tense and gave Orpington a way back into the match. There were a few nervous moments when they had the ball in dangerous areas. But The Heath held strong, and Georgie and Q each found the back of the net to seal a cracking 5-3 win.
Credit to Orpington, who finished the game with just nine players after two went down injured, yet still chose to carry on. As the Gaffer often says, it's never just about the win, it's about the performance, learning from every game, and taking those lessons into training. The Heath will no doubt take plenty from this match - the good, the bad, and the lessons - and put them into action moving forward. Well done NHFC, onto the next one!
